Australian Labradoodles:
History & Information
HISTORY
Australian Labradoodles are the “Original” doodle. They were created in the 1980’s by a Royal Guide Dogs Association trainer. The goal was to produce a dog that was allergy friendly but had the desired traits for Service and Therapy work. This paved the way to what we now know as Australian Labradoodles. These dogs came from several different breeds originally but now can be represented as a mix of three breeds: The Poodle, the Labrador and the Cocker Spaniel.
SIZING
ALD’S have 3 different sizes:
Miniature: 12” to less than 17”
Medium: 17” to less than 21”
Standard: 21” to less than 28”
Kingston Manor focuses on producing exceptional, Miniature (12”-17”), Fleece-coated ALD’s between 20-30lbs.
COAT & ALLERGY CONCERNS
Australian Labradoodles offer a wonderful option for most homes. While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic. This breed was created with the goal of offering an option to those who suffer from allergies. They are low shedding, and their dander is minimal. This makes them a great option for schools, hospitals or homes where allergies may be a concern.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Australian Labradoodles have two organizations in the USA that work hard to maintain a breed standard and continue to ensure the ALD is everything it was originally made to be. These two Organizations are WALA and ALAA.
Our goal with this breed to is to enhance it to the best of its standard in structure, coat, temperament and environmental stability. We take pride in the methods we use not just to select our dogs, but in the maintaining of their health both physical and mentally. The strongest dogs start from a solid foundation.
